Wichita Airlines
There are two airports in Wichita.
Mid-Continent Airport is the
terminal for commercial flights, and Jabara Airport handles private
aviation. In addition, the military maintains a large presence at McConnell Air Force Base. Wichita is known nationally as a major player in the aviation industry, because many major airplane companies have bases in the city.
To celebrate the city's history, it holds the Wichita Flight Festival at the end of August annually. The show includes exhibits and activities, as well as an air show.
The following airlines currently have a presence at Mid-Continent
Airport:
AirTran Airways - AirTran flies directly from Wichita to Atlanta and Orlando. From those two cities, the airline offers service to most of the Eastern United States. AirTran is a discount carrier, but offers a business-class option for flights.
Allegiant Air - Allegiant's only service out of Wichita is a direct flight to Las Vegas. The airilne operates similar flights out of many cities in Kansas, and is a discount carrier.
America West Express - America West provides service to the Western United States. From Wichita, travelers fly direct to Phoenix for a connecting flight. Mesa Airlines operates the flights out of Wichita for America West.
American Airlines - Has nonstop service to Chicago, Dallas and St. Louis. The St. Louis flight is operated by Chautaqua Airlines for American. From these cities, travelers connect to flights that cover a majority of the country.
Continental Airlines - Out of Wichita, Continental operates under the name ExpressJet, and flies a non-stop route to Houston, Texas.
Delta Airlines Atlantic Southeast Airlines operates the flight for Delta from Wichita to Atlanta, Georgia. The route is also serviced by the discount carrier AirTran.
Frontier Jet Express - Frontier does not currently operate any flights out of Wichita Mid-Continent Airport.
Northwest Airlines - Northwest has direct flights to two destinations, Memphis and Minneapolis. The flights are operated by Pinnacle Airlines.
United Airlines - One of the oldest airlines to continually operate out of Wichita, United has non-stop flights to Chicago and Denver, and offers connecting flights from those two locations.
